In the fall of 2018 Bruderheim school implemented a timetable that offered students recess four times a day. The longest our students are in class is one hour before they get a movement break. This is on top of the physical education instruction students receive as a part of their class time. Needless to say our Tigers are active each and every day.
Track and Field Day
Bruderheim School's "Track and Field Day" is always a highlight of the school year! Students compete against their schoolmates in numerous track and field events. Some of the past events have included 100m dash, scooter relay, ball throw, long jump, tug of war, and the list goes on. The events allow for both competitive and cooperative components in order to appeal to all students. Track and Field Day not only promotes athletics, it also aims to develop sportsmanship, leadership, and team building. All students are encouraged to participate!
Terry Fox Run
Every September Tigers participate in the annual Terry Fox Run. Each year students and staff raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society and run or walk on a one kilometer course around the school grounds. The students also learn about a real Canadian hero - Terry Fox. Join the fight. Help find a cure for cancer!
Bruderheim Community School students have raised thousands for the Terry Fox Run!
Every year, students at our school get to participate in a variety of fields trips geared towards enriching their experiences with physical education or cultural experiences. Grades 1-6 participate in swimming lessons at the beginning of the year. Grades 4-6 have the opportunity to learn to ski or snowboard each year.
In late January or early February there is a "whole school" field trip. The annual spell-a-thon helps to pay for this trip. Destinations include the Telus World of Science, Royal Alberta Museum and the Art Gallery of Alberta. Grade 4-6 students also have the opportunity to go to a special students' symphony presentation. Students, staff and parents alike enjoy these "off-campus" activities!
